ABOUT ME

My name is Jana Glozová and I am a painter focused on contemporary art and original paintings inspired by nature. I graduated from the Art & Design Institute in Prague, from the studio Artistic Work in Space under Miloš Šejn and Intermedia under Irena Jůzová. I was born in Kladno in 1995. I live in the countryside in an old mill by a pond with a large garden that hides the stories of its far-reaching history like a secret chronicle and becomes a natural open-air studio. In my paintings I capture my experiences from walks in nature, drawing inspiration from everyday life and personal memories that turn into little colorful films in my mind. Nature is my greatest teacher of composition and an endless source of creative energy, a place where original painting is born, connecting reality and imagination. My favorite theme is reeds with water lilies, which for me represent a symbol of a hidden paradise and inner wealth. That is why the paintings bear the fairy-tale name Royal Water Lilies. Another of my favorite themes and elements is working with aluminum sheet in my paintings. I enjoy cutting out the shape of a water lily from metal, because aluminum brings and imitates the element of water in the painting, as if the surface of the lake decided to become metal. I like its smooth surface, the reflection of light and the technical possibilities that allow me to combine painting with delicate reliefs and textures. Thanks to this, the paintings can feel more alive, change depending on the viewing angle and shine in different lighting, as if they had moods of their own. The silver sheet in the paintings sometimes resembles extraterrestrial vessels. My canvases thus become a dialogue between our planet Earth and another, as yet unexplored universe, where water lilies might be conversing with the stars. My work is dynamic, intuitive and expressive, and visually it may resemble children’s art – free, playful and without boundaries. The water lilies are like crunchy cookies scattered across the surface of the lake, as if the water were having a secret snack. It is enough to gaze at them, and in the silence one can hear them gently crunching in the rhythm of the lapping waves, inviting personal dreaming.

Wood shavings or sawdust have a great, almost magical value in my work, as I use them as a decorative and structural element on my paintings. With the help of sawdust and acrylic paste, I can create 3D effects that make the paintings emerge into space and gain new depth, as if they wanted to jump off the canvas and go for a walk. The paintings are harmoniously tuned, expressing positive emotions and moods and inviting inner calm as well as the joy of discovering details that hide within them like little treasures. I am fascinated by detail – the texture and scent of sawdust, sand, the rustle of reeds in the wind, the refraction of light on the surface of the pond and the fleeting moment of sunset. These are the building blocks of my works, in which ordinary moments transform into personal, poetic worlds where every shadow, reflection and rustle has its own story.
